What Happens When You Look For Jesus In Your Memories

A simple practice for healing and deeper connection with God.

Most of us carry memories that still hold emotion — joy, sadness, regret, or even pain. Sometimes we try to push them aside, but they keep influencing how we think, feel, and respond.

Immanuel Journaling is a way of remembering with God. It’s a simple practice of inviting Jesus into specific moments of your life so you can see them with His presence and perspective. Instead of reliving the memory alone, you walk through it with Him.

Here’s a way to start:

  1. Recall a moment – Choose a memory you’d like to process with God. It can be recent or from long ago.
  2. Write with Him – Ask Jesus where He was in that moment. What did He see? What did He feel toward you?
  3. Receive His perspective – Let Him show you truth, comfort, or healing that you couldn’t see on your own.

This isn’t about rewriting history. It’s about allowing the God who never leaves us (Hebrews 13:5) to show us where He was all along.

When we remember with God, painful moments can lose their power, and joyful moments can be savored more deeply. We come to know Him not just as the God of our present and future, but as the Redeemer of our past.

As you begin this new year, ask Him: Lord, is there a memory You want to revisit with me?

Then listen — and let Him walk you through it.
